M.Sc. Programme:

  • Harvesting Operations and Techniques. Postharvest Handling and Treatment of Fresh Produce
  • Postharvest Physiology Of Vegetables
  • Principal causes of post-harvest losses
  • Temperature Management and Storage Of Fresh Produce

Ph.D Programme:

  • Techniques in Plant Pathology
  • Advances in Bio-deterioration and Control in Stored Cereal, Legume Grains, Processed Roots and Tubers
  • Plant Virology
  • Design of Storage Structures

Entry Requirement

M.Sc. Programme:

O’Level Credits in not more than two sittings in relevant science subjects including Mathematics and English language (i.e Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics, English language and any other subject).

B.Sc(Hons) with 2nd Class in Botany, Environmental Sciences, Biology or Biotechnology.

PGD in any of the Life Sciences with CGPA of not less than 3.50 from any recognized University.

Evidence of NYSC/Exemption Certificate for Nigerian students.

Ph.D Programme

Five O’ Level Credits in not more than two sittings in relevant science subjects including Mathematics and English language to qualify for admission (i.e Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics, English language and any other subject).

Masters (M.Sc.) degree with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.50 in Botany, Environmental Sciences, Biology or Biotechnology.

Course Duration and Career Prospects

M.Sc. Programme:

Full Time: Minimum of four semesters and a maximum of six semesters.

Part Time: Minimum of six semesters and a maximum of eight semesters.

Dissertation with three months Internship Inclusive.

Ph.D Programme:

Full Time: Minimum of six semesters and a maximum of eight semesters.

Part Time: Minimum of eight semesters and a maximum of twelve semesters.

Career Prospect

Graduates of the course can gain employment within the Post-harvest sector of agric/food industries, major wholesale, retail and import/export organizations where produce quality is paramount and were supply objectives are on a global scale
